Contrast for Clarity

Interesting analogy - This morning the clouds were dark and I had a paddle session scheduled at 730am, as we entered the water - lightening came down and we got out. I was bummed as well as my friend - we were so looking forward to it. I decided later in the day I would schedule some time and go out alone. I really felt like I needed the fresh air, rocking of the waves and some peace in my heart. Later in the day I made it out to the water - not without some struggle. Getting the boards off the racks seemed to be a test of my patience and strength today. As I made it onto the water, I decided I wanted to go to the other end and down a neighborhood canal. I think its about 3-4 miles out. I knew it would take a while and the white caps on the lake told me it was going to be a challenge. Like life, destinations and goals come with patience, resilience and determination. I allowed my thoughts to come in and out as I was frustrated about many things and going out on the water was a perfect opportunity to burn them off and get some CLARITY. It became clear to me that the destination I wanted to go to was like life - the location is calm, still, quiet and peaceful - full of wildlife - a small water canal with million dollar homes all around. Very beautiful. A future I dream about all the time in owning a home and bringing up my children. The choppy waters, white caps, open air, waves, heat, wind and the extra agility it took to get to my destination made me think about life and how that was like the struggles and challenges we go through in our journey to our destination and goals in life. Even though once we get to our destination our journey is not over, the beauty in reaching the destination or goal is a sweet reward. I knew no matter what I would make it to my canal. I wanted to get there, I would do what it took. In life - we do the same. If you have a dream - keep going. Once I got to the canal, it was exactly what I expected and more. As I took a break on my way out, I sat on my board and coasted. Almost having a white butterfly dance all around me tease me that it would land on me. I saw baby ducks. I heard Eagles. Once out of the canal I had the extra pleasure of returning 3-4 miles homes through the choppy waves and sun. I decided to surf and coast a while which was very nice. I made it back of course and struggled loading the boards and Kayaks back on the rack. In life we go for the peace, calm, clarity and moments. Know that when you have struggles, it truly is so you can have a lesson in contrast. Knowing the hard so you KNOW how much you enjoy the still!
Extra Note:
I was able to paddle 6-7 miles on the lake for a couple of reasons.
I do it often in the summer and I had a protein shake before I went out. I highly recommend charging yourself up with extra undenatured whey protein before any extra stenerous activity. I would not ever go this long (about 3 hours) without a shake!
